PAINTINGS: PERSONA
The paintings titled 'Persona' are brought together in a cycle called Yin Yang Jung.
Although Yin-Yang originates from Taoism, I do not explore Taoism as a theme in my work. Nor are my paintings created according to the therapeutic principles of Carl Jung’s teachings. Yin Yang Jung stands as a fusion of the religious and the psychological—terms that more precisely define the subject of my interest, which is the question of the self.
Just as the Inuit developed a vocabulary to describe subtle variations of the color white—terms for which there are no direct translations—I similarly observe a lack of expressions for describing subtle states of consciousness, feelings, moods...
When I develop and complete my work, I expand my vocabulary. This process allows me to ground certain parts of the unknown, making the unknown accessible and comprehensive. I give a “name” to something that had been nameless. In that sense, each of my paintings becomes a kind of pictogram.
As Jung emphasizes, symbols are key to understanding the unconscious. They are not merely representations of reality, but bridges connecting what is invisible with what becomes visible. In my work, for example, the cloud becomes a personal symbol. Clouds—physical, yet practically untouchable—serve as proof of the presence of the heavenly/paradisiacal on Earth. A form of existence we can see, but not touch or hold. As a symbol of the path toward the transcendental, the cloud is an elusive matter, a form, but also a space; a hope that suggests that, despite everything, you can be more than what you are.
